The Role
We are seeking a skilled and innovative Design Engineer with good attention to detail to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, analysis, and development of marine vessel ,support with detailing vessel structures and systems. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams you will ensure technical integrity, safety, and performance of projects across design, construction, and operation phases.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering: Develop design and draught and structural details of vessels in 3D CAD.
Compliance & Certification: Support on producing drawings to marine standards and certification.
Technical Documentation: Prepare design drawings, specifications, analysis reports, and technical documentation for internal review, class societies and client submissions.
Project Involvement: Engage in design reviews, meetings, and communication with clients and stakeholders.
Construction Support: Provide technical support during build, assembly, trials, and commissioning phases. Conduct inspections and resolve design-related issues.
Tooling & Production Support: Collaborate with manufacturing teams on tooling design, mould preparation, and layup techniques.
Compliance & Certification: Support on producing drawings to marine standards and certification.
Development Support: Support with the development of design proposals, future concepts, innovation and R+D.
Technical information: Produce clear and considered information and drawings for use by yards and class societies.
Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture or related field.
2–5+ years of relevant industry experience (graduate roles available for less experienced candidates).
A good understanding of aluminium and composite materials and processes.
Strong attention to detail.
Proficiency with 3D CAD software - Rhino 3D or Similar.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and technical report writing ability.
Ability to work both independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
Eagerness to learn and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.
Eligible to work in UK and willing to travel occasionally if needed.
This is an office-based role with some remote working. Due to our office location the candidate will need to have their own means of transport.
Desirable Skills (Optional but beneficial)
Structural Analysis experience with ability to perform structural design and strength calculations using FEA tools and classification society rules.
Ability to perform stress and deflection analysis using FEA software to validate designs.
Knowledge of marine design standards and classification society rules.
Experience of designing structures to marine scantling rules.
Experience developing lamination schedules, core layouts, and manufacturing drawings for composite parts.
Good knowledge of aluminium or composite boat structures.
Hands on practical experience in a boat yard.
