ANNOUNCING THE CLIPPER RX

The exciting new yacht design by FISH MDC heralds the next-generation 12-yacht fleet that will take the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race into its fourth decade.

FISH Marine Design | Composites is proud to announce the launch of Clipper RX, the new 72ft Clipper Round the World Race yacht, designed by FISH in collaboration with Nigel Irens Design and M2ED. Based on a design brief developed by Clipper Ventures, the Clipper RX translates over 30 years of offshore racing experience into a third-generation yacht engineered for extreme offshore conditions.

Working closely with Sir Robin Knox-Johnston and Clipper’s experienced race skippers, FISH designed the yacht to balance performance, safety and longevity.

Peter Murphy, Managing Director at FISH MDC, said:
“Being selected to design the next generation of Clipper Round the World Race yachts is something we’re immensely proud of. This project is a strong endorsement of our collaborative approach and technical expertise.”

Sir Robin Knox-Johnston added:
“The Clipper RX design benefits from everything we’ve learned. It will provide a safe yet exhilarating experience for crews taking on this unrivalled adventure.”

For FISH designing a fleet that will sail tens of thousands of miles across the world’s most challenging oceans is a significant milestone; These boats must protect their crews while also rewarding them with performance and knowing our design input plays a role in achieving that balance is something we take great pride in.

Designed for longevity, the Clipper RX reflects FISH’s commitment to sustainable, future-focused marine design. The new fleet is intended not just for the next edition of the race, but for long-term service, creating a lasting legacy for Clipper and generations of sailors to come.

The result is Clipper RX - a fast and seaworthy 72ft ocean racing yacht that distils decades of offshore experience into a design where high-performance sailing and advanced safety features are seamlessly integrated. Engineered for the extreme conditions encountered during a round-the-world race, the Clipper RX is built to both protect and reward its crews.

Twelve yachts are currently under construction, with the new fleet scheduled to enter service for the 2027–28 Clipper Round the World Race.

Further details of the Clipper RX design will be revealed by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston during a presentation at Boot Düsseldorf 2026 on Sunday 18 January at 14:30 CET, with additional information available throughout the show at the Clipper Race stand (Hall 15, Stand C23).
